The French Revolution is on the brink of erupting. Claret Du Casavant’s alcoholic father has gambled away the family’s possessions, save Chateau Casavant. Before Monsieur Du Casavant passed away, he wed an opportunist during one of his blackouts. The new wife and her pirate lover imprison and force the stepdaughters into unimaginable conditions. Claret, the eldest, must save herself and who is left of her sisters. Into her life stumbles a conflicted Father Sebastian Valentini, who envies the sun that touches her lips.
